JUST FOR YOU DUDE!
a beautiful model. representing a beautiful piece of native american culture! you should appreciate it not bash others who do.
LET ME SAY ONE MORE TIME, IF YOU DONT LIKE WHAT I POST, STOP REBLOGGING IT. IT IS 2011 AND TIMES HAVE CHANGED, NUDITY IS BEAUTIFUL AND ADDING A HEADDRESS IS NOT PUTTING ANYTHING SEXUAL TO YOUR CULTURE, DOES SHE HAVE HER LEGS SPREAD OR IS SHE IN ANY SEXUAL MANNER?! NOOOO,

Does this make YOU want to vomit? Yeah, me too. I especially LOOOOOVE the “artist’s” disclaimer about how “if you don’t like what I blog, don’t reblog” blah blah blah. Another person commented about how Native American women are raped at roughly three times the national average, but this person doesn’t think that pictures like this contribute to making Native Women into sexual objects.
I guess, since history and all the rules about appropriation belong to the victor, this little white girl is technically correct. After all, her culture won, they are the dominant one, and we only make up 3% of the general population these days. Wait, we make up 3% of the population? That means…WE STILL ARE HERE! So, using our spiritual, historical, and sacred objects in ways they aren’t intended to be used just because it’s “artsy” is actually kind of selfish, thoughtless, and no matter how you justify it, it’s still a shitty thing to do?
Yeah. That about sums it up. Of course, what I know is that people who will do this will never, ever, think in those terms. To them, the end justifies the means. Ergo, if the picture looks pretty to them, it’s totally ok to use objects from anyone’s culture, be it Native American, African, Islamic, Jewish, Swedish, French, Celtic, Indian, Pacific Islander…whatever, as long as it’s “cool”, “trendy”, “hip”, and “pretty”.
Fuck that. Leave my culture alone. Why do you work with what scraps of culture YOU have left?
